Digital Chocolate, a well known mobile games developer, will be publishing games for the next generation N-Gage platform. The first of these will be DChoc Cafe which has a virtual cafe around with a number of different casual (card, board, puzzle) games can be played. The games also features social elements with customisable characters, game recommendations and competitions.

Nokia has been setting up an impressive line up of games for its next generation gaming platform. See our earlier article on Nokia's Next Generation Gaming platform or the official site  for some of these.

Lining up some casual games makes a lot of sense since this an area which has seen considerable success in the mobile gaming arena and should help broaden the appeal of the platform.

Press release extract:

Nokia, the world leader in mobile communications, announced today that California based mobile games developer Digital Chocolate has signed up to publish a variety of titles for the N-Gage platform launching this fall. Digital Chocolate is a leading developer known for its original, high-quality mobile games with intuitive features and entertaining content.

"Digital Chocolate has been a driving force in promoting social interaction within the context of mobile gaming," said Gregg Sauter, Nokia's director of third party publishing. "They are also an award winning publisher dedicated to bringing innovative games to the masses.  It is these qualities that make Digital Chocolate a perfect fit for our N-Gage offering, which allows publishers to innovate with respect to quality, ease of use and community interaction."

Digital Chocolate's newest game series, DChoc Café(TM), brings an exciting range of games to the N-Gage platform. DChoc Cafe merges the most popular and accessible casual games with the next generation of social gaming on mobile.

A "virtual café" featuring casual card, board and puzzle games similar to those found at a café or other neighborhood meeting place, DChoc Café offers users the opportunity to stay connected with friends through mobile gaming when they want. Additional features in DChoc Café allow players to create customized characters, earn prizes and make game recommendations.

"DChoc Café is a perfect complement to the Nokia's next generation N-Gage platform," said Gary Schofield, president of networks, Digital Chocolate. "N-Gage provides the tools we need to tap into the powerful device performance and promote social interaction between players through games, which is completely in line with Digital Chocolate's philosophy. We're very pleased to be teaming up with Nokia."

Exactly. Hardcore gamers will roll their eyes at stuff like board games, but you look at the phone game charts and the top 10 is always full of casual games.

Even on dedicated games consoles, the Wii and DS have shifted vast quantities of casual games such as Brain Training and Mario Party.

This is true, the real "addictive" games are quite simple. It's the idea that matters!
